Group and Individual Coaching
We run group coaching on Saturday mornings from 9.00am till 2.00pm and also weekday evenings between 4.00pm & 7.30pm (see coaching for details). The groups are divided into age/ability squads and numbers are carefully controlled so as to ensure each child receives quality time from the coach. These squads, as well as being great fun, are designed to provide the children with the skills necessary to become good players and provide the foundation for a life of enjoyment of the sport. These squads are run all year round and are charged at £3.50 per session paid for in advance in 12 week blocks. Private lessons are available for individuals or small groups at extremely reasonable rates – see coaching for more details.
General Play
Young players are encouraged to play as much as possible. Unlike some other clubs, we do not restrict the courts that juniors can use and they are welcome to use any court at any time, although full paying adult members have priority at weekends and evenings after 6.00pm. As young players improve in ability and are seen to have a mature attitude, they can apply for ‘senior privileges’, which means they are then eligible to participate in all senior play including social play, Tuesday League and club matches.
Matches and Competitions
We have several teams in local and county competitions in all age groups from under 12’s to under 16’s. We also hold annual tournaments for both singles and doubles in all age groups with trophies presented at the annual junior presentation disco. As mentioned, for the better young players, ‘senior privileges’ are offered allowing participation in all adult tennis. This system not only allows juniors to improve dramatically as they are playing against players much older and more experienced than themselves, but also to facilitate a natural progression into senior tennis. For those players that are of the highest standard, the opportunity to play with our best players at such an early age can provide invaluable match experience.
Dress Code
We do not have antiquated kit rules and you do not have to spend large sums on designer
labels for your child as long as clothing is either predominantly white or designed
for tennis ie. No football kit or beach shorts. The main factor is all tennis shoes
must have non-
Young players are welcomed at Gidea Park and we offer excellent facilities in which to learn and improve tennis skills as well as interact with other people of all ages in a safe and healthy environment. All children are welcome from the age of 4 up to 18 with coaching available for all standards from complete beginner to county standard.
