The club runs a variety of competitions throughout the year. These range from a weekly league style doubles ladder called Tuesday League through Handicap and Veterans events up to the full Open Club Championship.
Competitions
Tuesday League
This is a very friendly evening of tennis run every Tuesday during the summer months. It starts on the first Tuesday in May at 6.45pm although many people start arriving for a quick practice from about 6.00pm. It is extremely popular with over 40 players regularly attending and is run by one of the coaching team – usually the head coach. The format is doubles play and you play with the same partner every week (you can substitute partners if one of you is unavailable). It is played in a league format with 4 pairs in each division and promotion for the winning pair and relegation for the losing pair each week. This format means players always have games against opponents of similar standard and allows pairs to progress to higher divisions as their ability permits. If you are unable to find a partner the coach will usually be able to assist. This is also an ideal evening for players new to the club to meet other members.
Club Tournaments
We have a full program of events for our annual tournaments. Everyone is welcome to enter and in the handicap events have an equal chance of winning. These run from the start of May with the finals day in September and trophies presented at the dinner dance in November.
All handicaps are allocated by the organisers and are designed to make each match as even as possible, even if there is a wide difference in playing standard. Handicaps are adjusted annually to reflect changes in playing standards.

Mens Singles, Ladies Singles, Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles
We also run a full program of veteran’s events however our ‘veterans’ start at the age of 40! There are no handicaps in these events and all matches are played off scratch.

Mens Singles, Ladies Singles, Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles
The main Club Championship is run along similar lines, with the finals held in September. The Open Championship as it is known is open to all members and gives everyone the chance to play against the best players in the club. Exactly the same events are run.
Open Championship:
Mens Singles, Ladies Singles, Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Double
Entry forms are to be found in the subscription renewals letter and should be returned to the Men’s Captain by April 1st. If you do not have a form or miss the deadline you can download an entry form or enter online. There are no fees to enter but you do need to have a partner to enter any doubles event. Entries will be accepted up until the draw is placed on the notice board.
American Tournaments
These are 1 day events usually run on a Sunday several times each year. There is usually a small entry fee to cover ball costs and the format is doubles play over several rounds with a different partner each round. They are great fun, you get to play all day and quite often there is food laid on. Watch the notice boards for dates for these throughout the season or go to Latest news quick link.
